Having worked in an ‘Outstanding’ school as a Class Teacher for nine years and as a Deputy Headteacher for five years, I feel both confident and excited about the positive difference I can make to children’s learning and mindset as a private tutor. When children feel safe and motivated they enjoy challenging themselves and inevitably they make excellent progress as a result. I will use my knowledge of each child to ensure that this is exactly how they feel when I teach them, in order to reach the RP Tutoring goal of ‘fulfilling children’s potential’.

Each child who attends RP Tutoring works on a plan that is specific to their learning needs; every minute of learning time is precious and so will be spent supporting and developing your child.

MATHS

Ever wondered why every adult seems to either ‘love’ or ‘hate’ maths? Too much emphasis on right and wrong from a young age and too little time spent building thorough mathematical foundations are big factors in this. I will work to build a strong mathematical platform that will benefit your child for years to come.

KENT TEST (11+)

From analysing key gaps in children’s skills and knowledge, to learning how to handle the unique nuances of Kent Test papers, I will use my vast knowledge and experience of the Kent Test to ensure that your child is thoroughly prepared.

AGES 7-11

My teaching career was spent educating children in years 3 – 6 and so that is where my main expertise lies. I will sometimes make exceptions for children in Years 7, 8 and 9, so please do not hesitate to contact me if you have a child of this age.

OFSTED

The primary school I worked in was graded as ‘Outstanding’ by OFSTED throughout my 15 years there. All of my OFSTED-observed individual lessons as a Class Teacher were graded as ‘Outstanding’. I continue to strive for such excellence in my new role.

TEACHING APPROACH

My detailed national curriculum-based assessment system allows me to quickly and accurately assess each child’s strengths, learning gaps and areas for development. This knowledge helps me to plan sessions that are designed to positively challenge each child from their individual starting point.

AFFORDABLE FOR ALL

Some of my sessions contain groups of 4 children. This enables me to keep prices as low as £30 per child per session, whilst still providing crucial support for every child.

ENJOYABLE LEARNING

Many people see working hard and having fun as opposites when they are absolutely not! I have taught hundreds of children yet have found something that they all have in common: if they feel safe, relaxed and engaged in what they are learning they will perform to the best of their ability.

Private Tutor

I am a popular tutor with 15 years’ experience as a teacher, senior leader, and maths coordinator in an outstanding primary school. I will be offering private tuition in maths and all aspects of 11+ preparation. My focus will be on tutoring children in Years 3-6 (with some exceptions from Years 7, 8 and 9).

I have recently completed my second year as a private tutor. Time flies when you are having fun! It continues to be a pleasure and a privilege to support children through their maths and Kent Test journeys. At the time of writing, I am working with 42 children per week!

My tutoring sessions take place in a newly refurbished room at my home in Kennington, where I live with my wife and two step-children. When I am not tutoring, I am most likely to be found cooking, on the golf course or walking my faithful Labrador.
